"In life there are so many different things that are possible to lose,
such as our family, jobs, money, health and even our life.
These are difficult experiences but not really problems. Problems
only come if we lose our inner peace
."

-Lama Gangchen Rinpoche

Healing, Teaching and Transforming – One Heart at a Time

Buddhism is a very practical and beneficial philosophy with its main teachings centered on developing our minds to be relaxed and in a state of non-harming, nonviolence and peace. Because it is fundamentally about training the mind, it is useful for anyone, no matter what your faith or background.

“If there is any religion or philosophy that could respond
to the needs of modern science it would be Buddhism.”

-Albert Einstein

Many people consider Buddhism to be a religion of non-violence, peace and compassion, yet it is also a centuries old  “science of the mind“. For thousands of years, this science of the mind and its many meditative and healing techniques, have helped millions of people overcome inner negativities, such as stress, anxiety and depression. Buddhist meditations are especially effective in helping us reach higher state of consciousness: inner peace, mental stability, happiness and wisdom. You can think of it as a type of science, a method of exploring your own experience through techniques that enable you to examine your actions and reactions in a nonjudgmental way. At its heart, it is very practical. It's about doing things that foster serenity, happiness, and confidence, and avoiding things that provoke anxiety, hopelessness, and fear.

Over the past 20 years, there have been numerous studies done by western scientists at leading academic institutions, such as Harvard University, Stanford University Johns Hopkins, The Mind Life Institute, University of Massachusetts and many others about Buddhist contemplative methodologies and methods for investigating the mind. Just as scientists make observations and conduct experiments with the aid of technology, contemplatives have long tested their own theories with the help of highly developed meditative skills of observation and experimentation. The bridge between western science and Buddhism has created a discipline called “Contemplative Science”.

Western science has been content to believe that each of us has a more or less genetically determined set point for well-being – and that happiness and love happen to us. Buddhism on the other hand, frames things differently. We can transcend our lot by learning to quiet the mind in meditation – not merely to relax and cope with stress, but to rigorously train oneself to relinquish bad mental habits and cultivate positive states of being. Rather than being an end in itself, meditation becomes a tool to investigate your mind and change your worldview. For more information, go to www.mindandlife.org.

The lineage of our teachings dates back 2,500 years ago to the teachings of Shakyamuni Buddha. They have been passed on from teacher to student, with an emphasis on the teachings of Lama Tsongkhapa and the Gelupa Order of Tibetan Buddhism. The lineage masters are the Great Lama Tsongkhapa, Dalai Lama, Panchen Lama, Khabje Trinjang Rinpoche and Lama Gangchen Rinpoche.

We offer teachings in a number of areas of Buddhist study:

  • Vajrayana and Mahayana Classes
  • Ngal So Self-Healing
  • Ngal So Reiki
  • Traditional Rituals and Ceremonies

The Foundation also produces recordings of music, books, CDs and DVDs through Lama Gangchen Peace Media, United Peace Voices and Peace Publications. For more information on our publications and media offerings, contact us at info@lamagangchenusa.org.
